After School Enrichment

Northwood's After School Enrichment (ASE) provides interesting curriculum that kids may not receive in their daily classroom. Creativity and self expression are encouraged as students discover and develop new interests and talents.  For more information about after school classes, please contact the Northwood office.

Spring 2018 After School Enrichment Courses

Spring Session begins the week of January 29th and goes until March 23rd. All classes are 8 weeks except where noted.

 

 

Mixed Media Art Class

Mondays from 2:30-3:30pm  

*note: this is a 7 week course, due to the President’s Day holiday                                                                

Available to grades: 2-5

Student min/max: 5/15        

Location: Multiuse Room                                                                 

Fee: $45

 

Cultivate creativity and flex your artistic muscle with Ms. Ivory! Students will use multiple forms of artistic media and instruction will focus around a Master Artist.

Rhythm Kids Level II (a Music Together course)

Tuesdays from 2:30-3:15                                                                        

Available to grades: K-2

Student min/max: 5/8   

Location: Multiuse Room                                                                           

Fee: $200

 

Rhythm Kids Music Together offers children the opportunity to develop music skills in a class that is fun and lively. There is a special focus on learning hand drumming in addition to group singing ensemble experience and movement skills. Music Together classes provide a strong basis for students to become tonally and rhythmically competent with readiness for music reading. Students do not need to have taken a Music Together course before to be ready for this class. It is open to all students, grades K-2.

 

Course fee includes 2 CDs and a songbook plus a djembe drum to keep at home!

Fashion Design - FULL - WAIT LIST ONLY

Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30pm                                                            

Available to grades: K-5

Student min/max: 4/12                                                                          

Location: Multiuse Room

Fee: $85

 

Come learn intricacies of fashion design from a real-world expert. Projects will be tailored to age/skill level, and will include things like paper design, cloth and bead construction, and glue gun embellishments. You will learn fashion terminology and fashion sketching, and will work on fashion collections as well as fashion magazine writing. Bring your own doll you wish to design clothing for, and be ready for a great time!

Basic Animation Class

Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00pm

*Note, this class ends early. Last session is Wed, March 14.                                                             

Available to grades: 3-5

Student min/max: 7/12                                                      

Location: Library      

Fee: $130. No refunds after first class!

                       

Do you have a love of moving pictures? Do you ever wonder how cartoons are made? Learn the fine art of animation, where students will discuss everything about animation from the history to supplies and production. Students will bring characters to life by making simple, 2D, hand-drawn "flipbooks" that they will bring home to share with family and friends.

 

Repeat Students! You can either polish your skills and add an ending on your first flipbook or start fresh on a completely different book!

 

Instructor: Lynne Lee is a graduate and past instructor for the Academy of Art University in SF. She has received invaluable animation training from several Pixar Animation Directors. Lynne has had a short film debut at the Mill Valley Film Festival and has worked on a kids TV series for UPN. She has taught this class for several years to students all over the Bay Area.

Yoga - FULL - WAIT LIST ONLY

Thursdays from 2:40-3:40 pm                                                              

Available to grades: 1-5

Student min/max: 3/8                                                                          

Location: Library       

Fee: $95

                                                

In this class students will learn about poses called asanas while strengthening and stretching their bodies. Children build confidence and develop body awareness through practice. Learning the techniques of yoga breathing helps them to enjoy the benefits of relaxation as a lifelong skill.

 

*Students must bring their own yoga mat!

Napa United Soccer Skills -Kindergarten ONLY

Thursdays from 1:30-2:15                                               

Available to grade: K 

Student min/max: 5/12                                                    

Location: Primary field (by the Eagle’s Nest)

Fee: $90

 

Napa United Soccer Club brings this class, lead by teacher Tom Shutt. Classes consist of fun games and small sided scrimmages. Focus is on having FUN playing soccer while learning foot skills and key motor skills. No previous experience with soccer is required! This is a fun, confidence-building class.

Napa United Soccer Club brings this class, lead by teacher Tom Shutt. Classes consist of fun games and small sided scrimmages. Focus is on having FUN playing soccer while learning foot skills and key motor skills. No previous experience with soccer is required! Students of varying skill level will find opportunity to develop while playing together in a fun, cooperative environment.
