NORTHWOOD NEWS

Saturday Academy

Due to the two weeks of learning we lost during the North Bay fires, we will offer two Saturday Academy sessions this spring. Our first will be held on Saturday, January 27th.

Saturday Academies are optional and will offer rotating activity centers including art with Ms. Ivory, P.E. games with Coach Porter, computer lab, and more! Classes will be led by Northwood teachers and staff.

Northwood Eagle Attitudes of the Month

Northwood Eagle Logo

Here at Northwood we know that the positive choices and attitudes that we expect from our students today are what we will see tomorrow as they become positive, productive adults and citizens of our community. With that in mind, we celebrate a character trait, or "Eagle Attitude," each month. Teachers create lesson plans to incorporate the character trait throughout the month. Each teacher at the end of the month chooses 2 to 4 students from the class who have shown excellent modeling of our "Eagle Attitude" and those students are honored at our monthly assembly.

January's Character Trait of the Month is CREATIVITY! Having the ability to see something in a new way, to see and solve problems no one else may know exists, and to engage in mental and physical experiences that are new, unique, or different.

Hello Northwood Families! We are well into January already and have a few updates and reminders for the next two weeks.

Our annual Read-a-Thon fundraiser kicked off on January 17. There are awesome prizes including Kindles and more! We are celebrating Kindness Week all this week (January 22-26) and are learning a new song about kindness, entitled “Kind-Hearted Hand” and your student has kindness “homework” going home with them this week. We will have a school-wide sing-a-long at the end of lunch (12:45pm) in the Multi-Use Room and welcome any family members to join if you are able.

Our first Saturday Academy will be this Saturday! Please return your child’s permission slips that were sent home to confirm his/her attendance at the Academy.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre is back and we are looking to cast up to 60 of our very own 1st-5th graders to make this super fun play/musical come to life for two shows on Sat. Feb. 10 at Vintage High School Little Theatre at 3:00pm & 5:30pm. Auditions for Gulliver’s Travels will be held on Mon., Feb 5th from 2:45 - 4:45 in the MUR. You won’t want to miss this great show!

5th grade Eagles should mark their calendars for the free Science Fair Preparation Workshop on February 10th. This is a great opportunity for both students and parents to learn about the process and decide on a scientific method vs. engineering project.

We hope to see you at our next PFC Meeting this Tuesday evening, 1/23 at 6:45 p.m. in Room 10 and at our next Coffee with the Principal to 1/31. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child’s success in school and life.
