Dear Northwood Families,

The end of the school year has arrived, and we are saying farewell to our students, staff, and parents for the summer. We have had a remarkable year filled with events that have both challenged us and brought us closer together. i would like to thank you for your support throughout it all. Northwood would not be the special place to learn that it is without your volunteerism, generosity, and collaboration.

It has been my pleasure getting to know not only your child, but you as well. Having parent support, strong relationships and open communication is an essential part of a successful school culture. We appreciate and thank all our volunteers for the countless hours involved in so many of the behind-the-scenes activities such as school events, fundraising or assisting in the classrooms, at recess, in the computer lab and more. As we wrap up this successful year, our focus shifts to starting strong next year. Our first fundraiser is the Jog-a-Thon and it kicks off right away. We are looking to form a committee of parents now to plan ahead. Our current Jog-a-Thon chairperson will have a new bundle of joy in the fall and is looking to pass on her successful torch to a new Mr. or Mrs. Jog-a-Thon. To get involved with Jog-a-Thon or learn about other opportunities to give back, please contact our PFC Parent Volunteer Coordinator Amy Cleveland at akcleveland2@gmail.com to connect over the summer.

With the end of the year also comes staff changes and family moves. We would like to take this opportunity to wish those families leaving us this year all the best in their new schools and homes. We want to extend our sincere thanks and best wishes to staff members who will be leaving us for different assignments. Mr. Ellis will leave Napa and move with his family to New York where he plans to continue teaching. miss Simpson, our 2nd-4th grade functional skills teacher, has been assigned to Redwood Middle School, and Mrs. Casillas, our Kinder-1st grade functional skills teacher, will be leaving us as well. our librarian, Mrs. Faulk, will be leaving us for a full-time position with the St. Helena Unified School District. All of them will be deeply missed.

In August, Northwood will welcome new teachers and staff members who are excited to be a part of our Eagle Country family. Mrs. Ginette Ilsley and Mrs. Alison Bollinger are joining us from Vichy Elementary and will be teaching 1st grade. Mrs. Ilsley also coordinates Advanced Learner programs and Services (ALPS) for all NVUSD schools, and we are excited for her to share her expertise. Mrs. Bryant is returning, now job-sharing with Mrs. Picetti who returns from maternity leave at 1st grade. Mrs. Erin Little (who is also a Northwood parent to 1st grade twins) is joining us from El Centro Elementary and will be teaching the Kinder-1st grade functional skills class. We are still in the process of hiring a teacher for our 2nd-3rd grade functional skills class as well as a new library clerk. in addition to the staff changes, we have a few teachers moving grade levels. Mrs. Smith will move from Kindergarten to teach 2nd grade with Mrs. Sickler moving to Room 1, Mrs. Reeves will teach Kindergarten in Room 2, Miss Bryant will teach 3rd grade, and Mrs. Renfro will teach a 3rd/4th grade combination class. I invite you to come meet our new staff, see class placements, and celebrate the dedication and grand opening of the "Joe's Path" memorial walkway on Tuesday August 14th at 3:30 pm.

We hope you will stay connected with us over the summer! We have a number of ways for you to keep in touch, including following our Facebook page and visiting our school website for news over the summer. i would like to wish you all the very best for your summer and look forward to welcoming you back in the fall for another fun-filled school year in Eagle Country.

Yours in partnership,

Principal Knox

We are so proud of all the hard work and success of our math implementation! Check out the video below featuring our very own Barb Corna.

Northwood Eagle Attitudes of the Month

Northwood Eagle Logo

Here at Northwood we know that the positive choices and attitudes that we expect from our students today are what we will see tomorrow as they become positive, productive adults and citizens of our community. With that in mind, we celebrate a character trait, or "Eagle Attitude," each month. Teachers create lesson plans to incorporate the character trait throughout the month. Each teacher at the end of the month chooses 2 to 4 students from the class who have shown excellent modeling of our "Eagle Attitude" and those students are honored at our monthly assembly.
